Heather Parker Lake District Author

Heather and new puppy!

I am a freelance writer based in the Lake District in the North West of England.

I’ve won prizes in several literary competitions, including The Benjamin Franklin House 2009 Literary Prize, in association with The Daily Telegraph. Many of my stories have been published in magazines including The People’s Friend, The Weekly News, Bella Online, Words with Jam, Space and Time and The New Writer.

My stories also appear in anthologies including the Out of Line Peace and Justice Anthology, Hoi Polloi 111 Literary Journal, Sunpenny Publishing, Bridge House Publishing, The Absent Willow Review, Little Sisters Mystery Anthology, 50 Stories for Pakistan and Stories for Sendai. My first novel ‘Middlewitch’ and the sequel ‘Middlewitch Mayhem’ were published by Drollerie Press in 2009 and 2011. Unfortunately Drollerie has had to close due to serious illness, so Middlewitch and Middlewitch Mayhem are unavailable at present. I hope they will be re-published in the near future.

Update – Stories recently published:

My story, A Familiar Voice was recently shortlisted for the Cardiff Women’s Aid Creative Writing Competition and published in their 2013 anthology. Available from Lulu (please click on story link).

Two stories  are available from Alfie Dog Fiction.

The first, To Catch a Thief
When young Chris sees the girl lurking near the village market, he knows she’s going to steal something. He recognises the signs. But that’s all in his past and he wants to help her – she looks frightened and vulnerable.
So why are the police all over Britain hunting for her?

The second, The Experiment
Set in the near future, an ordinary woman tries to preserve her humanity in a frightening world. The government wants to test new technology in the Lake District to reverse the terrible effects of climate change. Should Eleanor leave her beloved valley – or stay and become part of ‘The Experiment’?

A story has been published in BellaOnline Winter 2012/13 – please click on the cover to read the magazine.
