About Heather

For over twenty years, I worked for the Faculty of Education at the University of Cumbria in Ambleside - previously known as Charlotte Mason College.  It was a very happy place and I have fond memories of both staff and students.  During that period, I also worked for Cumbria Development Education Centre, an educational charity helping children and adults to explore  the links between our own lives and those of people throughout the world.  This was truly a labour of love!

Our house and the Crake valley

However I have recently left work, which hopefully will give me more time for writing. I enjoy spending time with my husband, Chris, and our large family of animals: Star, the Japanese Spitz, her son Koshi, one of four puppies born in May 2009, Curly (a strange sort of Old English Sheepdog/Yorkie cross) and the cats, Domino, Tango, Pixie and Kira.

Living in the English Lake District means there are many wonderful views and lots of lovely walks for the dogs. View Heather's Photo Album to see more. I have lived in the country for over thirty years and I love it, in spite of floods, terrible broadband speeds, regular power cuts and no mains water - until last year.

Chris and Heather Parker's garden with StarI should perhaps add here that none of the characters in my new novel, Middlewitch, bear any resemblance to my friends and neighbours - particularly those in the Women's Institute! There has never been a hint of witchcraft in this village, in spite of what some in the Mothers' Union might say...
